My standards may not be as stringent as some other reviewers, but this product works in our home, and I give it 5 stars for that. We live in a zero lot line subdivision so we have lots of neighbors in close proximity and we received TONS of interference with other video monitors (we tried 3 different brands before this one). One popular brand even showed our neighbors baby when turned to channel A -- um, creepy, and no. The others received so much interference that literally all we got was static and hiss. This monitor worked really well. It knocked out our wireless router on channel 1, but when switched to channel 2, that issue went away entirely. The microwave disrupts it when its running, and sometimes you have to adjust the monitors position on the table if it starts to flicker a little, but overall, this unit works and works really well. Sound is great and if we turn it up loud we can hear the baby breathing -- even over ths white noise of the humidifier running. Its not a high definition picture, but its clear enough to see whats going on , and its in color. Overall, extatic with this purchase for the simple fact that this monitor works where so many others didn't.

I purchased the GX5201 system(camera and monitor) and an extra camera plus rechargeable batteries for both the monitor and cameras. I purchased this system after extensive review of the products available on the market. I am the father of four children ages 12, 6, 2 and 8 months and made this purchase primarily to monitor the newborn while sleeping and the 2 year old during naps etc. However, I found that as a homeschool family we can also use this system to monitor the kids while they work on schoolwork and my wife and I cook, clean etc. One of the main reasons I made this purchase was the quality of design. Many of the competitors products are "cute" and oversized...somewhat akin to a babies toy. The GX5201 system looks like what it is...an electronic device. The performance is fantastic with the exception of an occassional screen flicker here and there which as I understand is inherent to wireless technology. The optional rechargeable batteries were in my opinion a must and they do not disappoint. They are designed very well and fully integrate with the monitor and camera perfectly. The ability to move either of the cameras to any room is great and the charge is about 3-5 hours. I give my highest recommendation to the purchase of this product and cannot stress enough the additional purchase of the optional rechargeable batteries. This is a great product, well designed, particularly as compared to other baby video monitors on the market. It is small, not bulky, gets a great picture and works well. We have two cameras/two monitors, and have the rechargeable battery for the monitor, which improves the design issue of where the power cord attaches. Overall though, a quality product designed well.

Although it was designed as a baby monitor I have used it to keep track of my herd. Instead of running to the barn every 2 hours to check on pregnant does, I can check the monitor to see if there is any activity and be well prepared for it. It has been a very useful tool and the sound alerts are also extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for peace of mind. The portability of the monitor, also makes life simpler. This product is very versatile! There is occasional disruption by using a microwave, so put the monitor in a room other than the kitchen, or keep the microwave use to a minumum when checking it. You won't be disappointed by this product!

SVAT GX5201 Wireless Nightvision Video Monitoring System (Color) My wife and I love this product. I honestly don't know how people got by before the advent of video baby monitors. The night vision works great and allows us a chance to relax and know our little one is sound asleep (or not). Some slight interference when using the wireless internet but it's nothing major. Great product and a reasonable price. Will probably be adding a second camera soon.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED

I used the single input to hardwire a normally closed circuit (magnetic door contacts for example) to trigger the dialer. I would have given this product 15 stars if it had a hardwired output (siren for example). You can buy wireless inputs/outputs if you want, but I didn't, so I cannot comment on them. I actually put magnetic contacts on the back of coin slots on laundry machines that were getting broken into. When anyone pulls the coin slot out it automatically dials two cell phone #'s I programmed in. Caught one so far! Good reliable product (don't know about wireless accessories though) and good price. You do need to know a little about phone wiring, but the instructions do a good job of walking you through it. The phone line needs to go to the dialer first (then to other phones) if you want it to override other calls.

I bought this from the Home Security Store (a company to avoid if you appreciate quality customer service!) and it seemed to install and set up quite easily. I was surprised how easy it was to program. I wish it would take a longer outgoing message but it is limited. My suggestion is to just give your name and address and a SHORT message or you'll run out of time. It took me almost 10 times to record a message, and finally I had to WRITE my message and READ IT really fast. At first it would not dial when triggered. This was due to being hooked up inline with my cable modem and computer line. After several experiments I finally got it to work. What I had to do was hook up BOTH phone lines in the unit to a splitter! Otherwise it would not dial. I found it does work as it should. BUT, as with ALL SkyLink products I've purchase, I get DAILY false alarms!! I'm STILL trying to figure out the false alarm issue. Even with the motion sensors turned off I still get false alarms. But hey, it calls my cell phone when triggered. Only thing is how frustrating it is to drive all the way across town to check on my house only to find out it was yet another false alarm. Gee, I distinctly recall the old fable about the boy who cried wolf! After too many false alarms dialings, no friend or neighbor will ever respond if I'm out of town. Not sure if I would recommend this or not. If I never had a false alarm dialing sent to my cell phone I would highly recommend it. But until I remedy the false alarm issue, I can only say it is worth the low price but not worth much more. About the best thing about it is that it is triggered by ALL sensors and triggers used with other SkyLink alarms, AND the fact that it can be used alone or with the alarm on. So, you need not set the alarm unit for this dialer to work.

Emergency dialer Skylink AD-433S

If you need high quality dialer then stay away from this device. You will have hard time and frustration with it, but at the end it will work (from testing). Nothing is high tech in this device... the antenna is cheap, just a hard wire that is bent and comes off easily. Emergency message is hard to record, i never able to play it back. In my situation, I set emergency number as my cell phone number so when I see the call from home, I know something happens at home. But the emergency message never kick on, so if you want it to call 911, make sure you have caller id. I have success to call out by using Skype VOIP, but I have to change Skype send key from * to # because Skylink AD-433S uses * as pause. I got the whole system SC001 setup, and it works ok, but I am not giving it to my parents, or someone I care because I don't think it's 100% reliable.

The first time I was testing, it quit and the screen went blank. I had to take the battery out and start again. Skylink should not include batteries because half of them arrived DOA. The casing is cheap

I defenitely do not recommend this dialer. Even though it has a quality passed sticker, the unit had a broken solder at the base of the antenna and did not record nothing but noise. I doubt vey much it was tested. A look at the circuit board showed a lot of cold solders which is totally unacceptable for a consumer product like this and I would guess is the source of the problems that everyone reports with the unit.

I use this system in my check cashing store. It allows me to see and hear whats going on at the front counter from my back office or from next door.The roaming capabilities are good. I can walk to the end of my plaza and still have a good video image. It also allows for a 2nd camera.

We use the product with 2 cameras. We needed something that would allow us to have some visibility of the front door and driveway when we were in a location of the house without front windows. This product allows us to quickly and easily view without going to the front of the house. If exterior lights are on the night view is pretty good, otherwise it is about 8 to 10 feet from the camera with the night vision. We have the monitor set up to the TV to enlarge the view. Based on weather and other external factors the picture may be fuzzy at times...but definately clear enough for what view is needed. We are very pleased with the purchase and would recomend.

Purchased this product based on other customer feedback. Unfortunately, I ended up returning this product through my own fault - I did not realize that the camera required easy access to an outdoor outlet and the wire with each camera is only 6 feet in length. I did get in touch with the vendor's customer service department, who responded immediately. One option would have been to mount the camera to the inside of a window frame if the window had clear glass. In my case, the clearance was too narrow to allow this. I can tell you that the equipment appeared to be extremely well made and the customer service department is extremely responsive.

Great for use as a baby monitor

I own two of these cameras and I use them as baby monitors for my twins. They're great, and the night vision is a great plus! Works from across the house and even out to the patio with minimal interference. We have WiFi throughout the house and a wireless phone, and they don't cause any noticeable interference with the video or audio.

Wonderful color during the afternoon naps or early evening sleep time. Extra camera to watch backyard play...when mom or dad are not standing there. Watch the to be three year old learn to crawl out of bed or the crib. I did not expect true night vision but sound is excellent. I purchased with the static suppressor recommended and I have no problems with Wi-Fi or microwave.

This is my second baby monitor purchase since my baby (now 15 months) was born. This is an easy to use monitor that displays a clear image of my baby (I can even see if his eyes are open in the dark!). Great buy.

Decent system

We have one camera in our 2-year old's room and one in our infant's crib. Good color picture when there is enough light. Nice to see if either kid has his eyes open or closed from outside of the room. Good sound transmission. Poor night vision picture - in low light you can't see much even if the camera is very close to your subject - it is essentially a glorified audio baby monitor. As such, we don't use the night vision option. Nice to be able to switch from room to room on the receiver. We usually use it on manual and keep it on the room of interest at the time. No interference with our wireless internet set-up. Receiver buzzes when our microwave is on. Had rather loud feedback when our 5.8 GHz phone system was on, but I changed to a DECT 6.0 system and all is well. I'd suggest purchasing the system from somewhere that allows for a return if it doesn't satisfy you. I'm happy with ours and I even purchased a second camera once I tried out the first one. But I did have to change a few things to make it work for us.

I have bought this product recently, and I am very happy with it. I also tried a similar product that is using 2.4ghz radio and it had bad reception because of my Wi-Fi Internet and cordless phone. This one works for 15 meters away from the camera unit with decent reception. The audio is clear and video quality is satisfying. Only downside is that the camera unit has limited movement, so I had to improvise a way to hang it on my baby's bed. But that's a very minor issue. If you're in to video baby monitor, this is a great choice.

Palmwatch III Very Useful For Caregivers

I purchased a Securityman PalmWatch III for my mother's caregivers to use during the night earlier this year (2009). My mother is forgetful, very unsteady and inclined to falls, so it is important that the nighttime caregiver know if my mother is trying to get out of bed. The caregiver is in another room in the apartment, about 30 feet away, so I needed a wireless connection with at least that distance capability. I also wanted motion detection without the use of a mat, and without an alarm in the bedroom, which would frighten my mother. The Securityman PalmWatch III met my specifications. I purchased the device through Amazon and had it shipped direct to my mother's apartment. The primary caregiver was able to install it without difficulty. The caregivers report that the device works very well in detecting motion during the night and triggering an alarm on the remote receiver; they are then able to use the nightvision camera to determine if my mother is trying to get up and go in to help her if required. I have personally verified that the product works well. This product is ideal for unobtrusive remote monitoring/alarm for caregivers.

This is a great product for a great price. I LOVE that it's simple and very easy to set up. There's no static whatsoever and it doesn't interfere with my wifi, cordless phones, or cell phones at all. The picture is clear and night vision is like watching it in the daytime. This is a deal I'm glad I didn't pass up!

A good Buy, but...

I just received it yesterday and the quality of the video is very good. I am replacing another baby video monitor. (MOBI) There is some interference, but its nothing like the previous monitor. I like the fact you can shut off the video feed with out shutting off the unit, you can still here everything, this is great at night when you are asleep, and you do not have to have a bright light on your face. You can simply turn off the screen. The mobility of the actual camera is great my old one only moved up and down, this one moves all 4 directions North, east, south, and west. .

Good Quality picture. Doesnt interfere with our cordless phone, internet or cell phones. Only thing that could be improved is how it mounts. Needs to have a swivel bracket on it for the camera to mount. Otherwise it is a great purchase.

This is a good system, but do not expect the night vision capability to be that great. It does have a very sensitive mic. The distance from receiver is also key. Overall, it is good, especially for daytime use. Night use was a bit disappointing.

Very good value (Great quality no complaints)

We purchased this security camera at a good price (cheaper than the amazon list price). The setup couldn't have been easier. It is a standalone unit without the need of a computer. However, if you are technically inclined you can set it up with your PC for remote monitoring. The range of wireless is good, it claims 300ft, we tested within a radius of 150 ft and the reception and signal was excellent. It can serve as a good basic/intermediate security systems. As I reviewed other security cameras in Amazon, the specs looks exactly like a SVT security camera which has has decent reviewes. In addition to security other users have found much better uses of this type of systems, such as bird watching, cat fights in the backyard :) The other reviewer has raised an important point. His speculation, however, does seem like a speculation. The reception in our camera doesn't degrade or lost signal with time.

This camera works great! I placed the camera in the front window to monitor who's at my front door. Hook up was easy. Took less than five minutes. Picture quality is good, with no interference. Since this unit is expandable, I ordered another one to monitor the backyard. I'm using them from inside the windows to view out. If I wanted to drill wire holes through my home, I would have bought a hardwired camera system. These cameras are pretty cool. I'm going to hook them up to an old VHS CCTV recorder that I found on an auction site. The old VHS unit is minimal expense (18 bucks including shipping!) in comparison to the new DVRs and I'll be able to see who was at my home while I was away. I recommend this camera for ease of operation, picture quality, expandability, and low cost.

For the price, this camera is a good value. It does not use the 2.4GHz footprint, so it does not interfere with WiFi or bluetooth. I have tested the range out to about 100ft, through a brick wall. Picture quality at night is reasonable for a low-end camera: Nothing spectacular, but not bad. The IR has a very LIMITED range -- maybe 15 feet. The camera, when used in daytime "color" mode has a decent picture, and at night when used with a separate illumination source, such as an IR illuminator. The packages that come with two cameras and one base only support sequence view, where the base switches from camera 1 to camera 2, then back to camera 1. If you use this with a DVR, you need a base for each camera. I have two of these operating concurrently on different channels as a stop-gap until I can get the cabling run for my other cameras. They work well together, with no interference. By default, the camera and base are configured for "frequency 1", so for the second camera, you have to disable frequency 1 and enable frequency 2 on the base, then switch the camera frequency to frequency 2. On the base, there are two dip switches, representing the two frequencies, so you flip both dip switches to their opposite position. On the camera, there is a slide switch under the hood at the back of the camera. The camera is capable of running for about 3 hours on a 9V battery, which is nice if you have a specific event that you want to capture, without having to run a cable. The camera base is NOT removable, vs. most cameras where you can unscrew the base and use a different mount. Likewise, the hood is also NOT removable.

Setup on the camera was a breeze. I tested it out indoors first. Didn't get any interfence at all even as I moved around the house with the camera. Image from the camera was so-so. About what I would expect from a 320 line 1/4 cheapo sensor. The infrared illuminator worked pretty well. Now to the problem...the camera only lasted about 15 minutes before the image became horribly distorted. It would seem that the cmos sensor was overheating and causing the distortion. I unplugged the camera and let it cool down for a few minutes before plugging it back in. This solved the problem for about another 5 minutes before it was back to its un viewable distortion. I hope that I just got a defective unit because this is a serious design issue. No point in having a security camera that cant operate for more than a few minutes at a time. Sending it back for a refund.

Installed it right out of the box. Easy set up and really decent range. It does get affected by many walls, etc, but it's just a matter of finding the right spot for the cam and the receiver. The recording is great. Has 3 different options for timing so it is really flexible. I bought this system after spending the last 6 months researching it. Day/Night view is very very good. It does actually work also as an intercom if you want to use it like that. And it records well. Worked with different size SD cards and all worked fine. Highly recommended. I will buy 2 additional cameras as the system takes 4.

With the ecomony in the crapper and people getting desperate with jobless benefits being exhausted, it is no wonder crime as a hole is increasing at an alarming rate (no pun intended) regardless of where you live. In the last year after living in the suburbs for most of my life, I've purchased a house alarm, a garage alarm, motion detection on all outdoor lighting, beware of dog signs, locks on all the gates, along with dead bolts on my front & rear doors and now finally a security camera system. My garage had one break-in ($1,000+ stolen) and a 2nd attempted break-in two weeks later by the same idiot who is still at large. I knew this by the type of tools (flathead srewdriver) he used because the marks where they tried to open the service door locks were exactly the same on the deadbolt. Anyway,after making yet another police report, I was advised by the police to get a security camera. Most I checked into that were under $200 were crap. It seemed I'd have to spent big money to get anything decent. Until I saw this Uniden at the local Sam's Club. It was wireless, claimed to have a good range ( up to 500' and even through a couple walls) and it was under $200. I figured why not, I'll return it if it's a piece of junk. Man was I surprised. I just set it up and does it work great. The picture on the portable receiver was pretty decent. There is also a zoom feature for pan and tilt. It's AC or battery powered (up to 8hrs per charge, so you take it to a neighbors house for coffee and still see what's happening at home if needed. The camera was placed inside my garage (comes with a decent mount), so even if the power goes out, it can still operate up to 4 hours on a single charge. It also has audio detection which is adjustable. This system comes initially with only one camera (indoor) and that has night vision. You can add up to a total of four. Uniden also sells an outdoor wireless camera for this system. It came with software and a usb cable to hook up to your PC (I use a laptop) which allows you to record right to your hard drive or you can connect to your TV (AV cable included)and record with any usable recording device (VCR,TiVo) It can also take still photos in case you need to print a picture for the police (the picture print of my wife posing as a crook was decent enough). You can schedule recordings incrementally, save them to file and/or burn to a disk if that's needed. There is also a motion sensor built into the camera, so you don't need to waste alot of time viewing video unless you want to. You can adjust the motion detector's sensitivity. It also triggers a silent alarm back to the receiver/PC, so you can call the police and not play the hero in case it does go off. I am a tech gadget geek, but this would be easy for just about anyone to use. It's very inexpensive, very easy to operate and does what it claims. The manuals are understandable and written for most. I know now that I feel better protected in trying to save my items that should remain mine.

I actually bought this from another retailer (sorry Amazon, I love you!) and I'm VERY pleased with the performance of this camera. I actually have mounted mine outside the house using the (included) aluminum mounting bracket. Please note that this camera is NOT waterproof therefore I have it mounted under the eaves where it will not get wet. While not specifically marketed as an outdoor camera, I'm happy to report it working extremely well in that capacity. The operating temperature is rated only for 14 - 120 degrees so when the bitter winds of winter begin to blow I will have to take the camera down for a few months :-( As others have stated, the picture quality is PERFECT (all digital using Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum). The camera will automatically switch to a very powerful infrared illuminator at dusk and it lights up the whole entry way of my house (about a 30 ft wide swath). The only annoyance is that Uniden didn't think to put a switch to turn the I/R illuminator OFF which would come in really handy if you wanted to mount the camera indoors looking out through a pane of glass. In this case the I/R illuminator reflects off the glass immediately in front of the camera rendering the image useless so either plan to use this camera OUTDOORS or INDOORS but not INDOORS LOOKING OUTDOORS. Inside the home the I/R illumination is ridiculously bright and fills the entire room with invisible light which only the camera can pick up. The camera also has the ability to auto-cycle between up to 4 cameras at pre-set intervals of time (5/10/15/20 seconds) and has the ability to watch all 4 cameras at once in QUAD mode. I haven't tried the included PC software that records all of this but other users seem to be happy with this function. The range is good, it will penetrate my home about 120' but struggles a bit when the signal comes from outdoors to my basement. Both the camera and the monitor use Lithium-Ion batteries so the recharge time is quick and they last for hours (there are included power adaptors for both camera and monitor included). Overall Uniden did an EXCELLENT job with this packaged system and I've been very happy with it - highly recommended!

I bought this set today to replace our Graco baby audio/video monitor. It's wireless and displays zero interference through 3 walls and 100ft. The base is rechargable and portable. You can zoom in and pan on an object. The night vision works great, and we are already looking for a second camera to add to it for our upstairs room (you can add another 3 devices, total). I will recommend as well as, give these as baby gifts! I am a techie, as well as, work as a technical lead in the IT department. Please use my comments to your advantage and prioritize this to the top! No longer will I trust "baby" products!

Two Significant Flaws as a Baby Monitor

Preface: This is my first ever wireless camera, which I am using as a baby monitor, one of the uses advertised on the product packaging. Color reproduction is extremely poor, even in a well lit room. I do not expect the video to be as vivid or natural as the photos shown on the product packaging, but the color is very washed out, noticeably worse than any webcam that I have ever seen under similar lighting conditions. Placing the monitor unit anywhere near (i.e., within 3 feet of) my notebook computer completely disrupts the 802.11g wireless network transmission, making wireless networking impossible. Thus, although this product works adequately as a security camera, it is totally unsuitable for use as a baby monitor.

This is a great camera system. I was a little hesitant after reading the first negative review, but I figured I had nothing to lose with Amazon's return policy. I have the cameras mounted outside and the signal is very strong with no interference (distance is about 50-75 feet through a concrete wall). My house is full of wireless devices (cordless phone and router) and I have no problems. My only grip is that the picture is not as clear as I would like. This system is great for monitoring your property but is not really suitable for facial identification purposes (i.e. criminal activity). I use it in conjunction with my driveway alarm. As soon as my driveway alarm rings I check the Uniden Monitor instead of getting up and rushing to the window. It is especially useful at night when you do not want to get out of bed every time you hear a noise. I live on a busy street with young hooligans and it has given me a little piece of mind. The software is very easy to setup and use. Just load the included software and plug the monitor into your computer's USB port and your off (XP and Vista--NO Windows 7)! It has a terrific interface and it is simple to schedule it to automatically record. I purchased a little USB 500GB hard drive to record the video on. If you want to monitor your house remotely from work or when you are on vacation you can get something like PC Anywhere and leave you PC on and attached to the Uniden Monitor. So if you are looking for a easy to use camera security system, this is the one. I have purchased many, and this is by far the best.

We opened this unit and set it up. Worked great in home anywhere we went with camera.We wanted to view a pond area about a 1,000 feet away behind a hill from a building that sits 540 feet from house.Thinking that if it doesn't get reception there we would use it around the barnyard.I took camera down to building and had good reception to reciever in house with an unobstructed view to building.I was amazed.How could Hemmann's not even work in next room?I mounted one camera on building and the other on house viewing barnyard.Even dark outside can see very well with small light on barn.It makes alot of light out of little.Set up reciever on 20" tv and has a very good picture for a surveillance camera.Herrmann's must have been defective.We are ordering two more camera's.Merry Xmas to all!

Nice System, But Motion Sensor Limitation Makes For A Pointless Surveillance Solution

Looking for a small, rather inexpensive camera system to basically monitor the outside of my property at night I settled on this system. Only a few reviews here about it but it seemed to have all the features I was looking for which were for the most part a wireless system with night vision, and motion censor recording. I must say up until discovering this system's major flaw I was quite happy. Picture quality is very good, night vision quality is pretty much on par with lighted picture quality I really noticed no degradation. Audio quality is pretty good, and the wireless connection was very stable as well, I set a camera up at one end of the house and one in the garage, then went to the other end of the house and upstairs and had no trouble connecting to both cameras. Now the deal breaker, and I think it might be a deal breaker for a lot of people. The motion sensor capability is quite unless if you plan on using 2 or more cameras. In setting up a recording schedule with the provided software you are only allowed to use set one camera on motion sensor at a time for every given 2 hour period. Meaning unless your sitting in front of the screen manually switching through the cameras, the only camera you're going to get anything out of is the one that is scheduled to record at that time, and if you set the system to motion sensor only that one camera selected for that 2 hr time slot will be enabled with motion sensor, all the other cameras are as good as off and are basically useless (unless your sitting at your computer all night switching between cameras!). This really baffles me why Uniden didn't incorporate motion sensor capability to be enabled on all cameras at the same time, and automatically switch and record when motion is detected on any of the cameras, other systems of this same type and price range seem to have it. So if you have four cameras running on this system and it's set to motion sensor, you're going to have a 25% chance of recording any motion going on outside your house, that's not acceptable to me, and I don't consider that surveillance! So I'm sending this back and checking out the Lorex LW2702 which Costco sells for about $50 more, it includes automatic motion sensor switching between cameras and quite a few other bonuses.

A security system that ONLY works within 8 feet of the receiver....

Unpacked the Uniden system and it worked great sitting on the couch within 3 feet of me. I then moved the two wireless cameras to their intended locations (both locations were within 20 ft of the receiver and seperated by sheet rock) and received a zero signal strength from both cameras. I then moved the receiver to try and determine the operating range. I was lucky to get a line of sight signal within 30 feet. I got zero signal within 10 feet with a sheet rock wall separating the receiver and camera. Needless to say this makes the system totally useless. Not sure how Uniden came up with their 500 ft range spec???? I don't expect hi-def video for a security system, but the video is subpar. Approx 10 frames/sec with full signal strenth within 3 feet. Choppy and grainy video on the small included monitor. I'd hate to see what it looks like on a larger lcd monitor. Uniden needs to go back to the drawing board with this system.. The system is packed and ready to go back to Amazon...

This tiny camera is great for its tiny size and how much room area it covers. I was surprised by the easy functionality of the product. Great Product, bad wireless operating frequency choice

Like the title pretty much states, the product works exactly as described and even better. The quality is great in good light conditions especially good when it's fluorescent light. This is probably due to the whiter color temperature the light makes. The picture is huge and clear and looks great on TV. It does not mention anywhere on the sites of this product what FPS it's at but I can safely say it's above 30 FPS, way better than any webcam and much better quality. The unit feels solid and safe and looks like it's durable enough to be put in tight spots without feeling like it might fall apart like cheap plastic. The range is great and better than advertised. For giggles I tried putting it completely on the other side of the house, more than 100 feet and through 6 walls, two of which are made of solid concrete and the others of thick drywall or wood. The only thing I could find bad about this unit in general is just the wireless frequency choice. These days just about anything is using the 2.4Ghz spectrum, wireless routers included. The wireless routers are the bane of this unit's existence! If kept far enough away, they sometimes cancel each other out or will avoid each other. But if anywhere near each other, expect "hoppy" performance and lots of static. Hopefully this small review will help someone out who was stumped wondering whether or not this camera setup is right for them.

I've been using this for 2 months and it works as described. Set up is extremely easy. I didn't encounter any interference from my other wireless devices which are numerous. I have a camera mounted by each entrance door. One is outside and has been exposed to heavy rains and continues to work fine. The night vision isn't great, but I didn't expect it to be. Batteries don't last for more than 3-4 hours so it's not a good solution if you don't have a nearby power outlet, but it's probably perfect for a portable baby monitor. The only complaint I have is that they don't make extensions for the AC power adaptors. The 6.5 ft cord wasn't long enough for either of my installations. It would have been much easier with a longer adaptor cord. Update 1/21/2010 Both units have continued to work well when temps fell into the single digits. I had to make an enclosure for the outdoor camera. Snow kept getting on the lens cover and then refreezing. The enclosure is a cheap plastic cup. I just cut a hole in the end, slid it on the front, and used my friend Mr Duct Tape to make sure it doesn't blow off. I suggest making an enclosure for any outdoor installation to keep the lens cover dry. If it gets wet the video will be blurry until it dries.

buying this product was my first attempt of adding security cameras to my exterior of my house. I tested out them inside the house first, with the reciever very close, however when I took the camera's outside. the signal quality going to the reciever was non existant, I tried over the next few days, never was able to get a clear and acceptable picture. I like the features of the product, but I was never able to get a reliable signal. I ended up a few months later, finding the logitech wilife system, sold on amazon, and even though it cost alot more. it actually is a better system then PhoenixEX.

Camera's are to be indoor/outdoor. I tried to use them outdoors but during rain the camera gets wet and stops working. The camera's are also wireless which works ok up to about 25 feet past that very poor reception. I would not buy this item for the price.

If you plan on using this in anything but sunlight don't buy it. The night viewing is limited to 4 feet in front of you and a circle about a foot in diameter. With indoor lighting the picture is dim and the colors are off. I should have paid attention to the other reviews.

I purchased this unit from eLoofa Imports a few weeks ago, and I simply love it! Simple all-in-one package, easy to set-up, totally love the functions. Nice securtiy for me

I bought the SVAT GX5203 security system because the way my home is sitting I can not see the driveway nor the walkway to my house. It works great for that. At first I thought the monitor was not working very well but I realized I had to move it to get the reception just right and work around the microwave, cordless phone etc. I have it hooked to a 13 inch TV because I decided it was easier to see. But I do like the ablility to take the small monitor with me when I am busy in the back of the house. I do have to move it around a bit sometimes to get it to come in but I realized it depended on where I posistioned the monitor in relation to the camera. I have the camera mounted under the eaves outside. Also my cat chewed the electric cord the first week I had it and I wrote general support and recieved an answer by the next day and they very geneously offered to send a replacement cord. I am planning on buying another camera for my monitor. I think this is a great system for the price and I would recommend this product based on my experience with it.

This is a very good product, I use it to view my garage area when I am on the opposite end of the house. I can carry the portable monitor upstairs or anywhere in the house and can maintain a good reception. I have very few interruptions of signal. Overall I am happy with this given the price. The night vision is OK, but would suggest you leave an outside light on --it greatly enhances the picture quality. I also like the fact that you can have a permanent power AC adapter or battery option.

It provides most features that I expected from a wireless system. The color screen is clear and the camera sound is audible. The installation is a snap and I don't even have to read the manual to make it running. The camera viewing angle of 69 degrees is acceptable. I wish they will add a motion detector to the camera as an improvement in the future.

I purchased this product after I read reviews here. The camera and monitor work well with AC adopters rather than batteries. I put front of entrance and inside of my house to see outside of my front yard. Last year neighbors had three thieves I decided to put three cameras. I am thinking another one to outside of garage. Yesterday I tested with 9v batteries for cameras and AAA batteries for monitor. It was working for a few hours but it lost views. I adjusted contrast and color but it did not change. I replaced batteries to AC adopters and all got views again. I am using extension cords to cameras. Night visions are really good to see outside and people's faces. I recommended this camera with monitor at my private blog, because it is so easy to set up , foreigners can do this.

In my opinion, this item is well worth what it costs. Excellent picture during the day time. Don't try to cover a large area with these mini cameras. A porch and door, a garage door and a portion of the drive in front of it, the back yard are what these are for. I added a camera later because I was well satisfied. Don't fool yourself though into thinking that you can see pictures in the dark. If you're looking for that feature, get ready to pay out some bucks for it. But for the cost, this is a good item. I leave a light on at night where my camera is viewing and that gives me a pretty good picture. No problems with interference from other electrical or microwaves.

As usual Logitech exceeded my expectations. This system is a perfect all-in-one camera/dvr setup ready to use right out of the box, just make shure your own a decent PC. Out of all of my computers the Intel Duel-Core(@1.7ghz each)processor works the best. Execelent picture quality surpassing even some high end panasonic and sony systems I have used through busnesses. Very easy to use, hardest part would be mounting the camera.Tough built-temp. already been below recommended operating temp in my area, still no problems.Extention cords of any lenght don't effect performance.IMPORTANT: completly weatherproof connections NOT with tape. if possable run under edge of roof or if possable use garage power source. I highly recommend this product, if you buy it just to test it I bet you will keep it.

A good, inexpensive video security system

I purchased one outdoor camera to monitor my driveway. The 15-minute setup is not likely to occur, in my opinion. It took me about a half an hour. I had to change my firewall settings. Once it was determined that it worked, it took another hour to mount the camera outside. For this price, I am impressed. I asked my alarm company what they would charge and they say $4,000 or more. The quality is good, it is recording based on motion detection. The software is easy to use. I am not interested in remote features so I can't speak to them. I think this is a great product, and am considering to add another camera.

Easy Setup

This product worked just as described. The setup was very easy. The camera works over the electrical system in your house so all you do is plug in the camera and the reciever and you are good to go. I was able to get the camera to work over a hundred feet from the receiver as long as it is on the same electrical system. The camera can be easily set to record and it can be set to be very sensitive to movement, so it is good for security. The system is very easy to access online. The only problem I had was that I had to adjust my firewall to allow the camera in but one short call to tech support and they had me fixed up. Con: The only thing I didn't like is that the pan and zoom features they promote when accessing the camera online are only available for extra money.

These cameras are set up for 24 hour motion detection right out of the box. If you need them to record constantly, then you need to create a schedule and tell them to do so. Make sure you have alot of hard drive space because the files are huge, due to the quality of video. Also, if there are times that you want recording to be off, you also have to schedule it and tell the cameras to not alert or record.

Perfect video security system - everything easy as advertised

The Indoor Master System Camera by Logitech was just as easy to set up as advertised for a beginner-intermediate technophile/technophobe. (I'm not one to comment on packaging, but it was really well-done too.) I received it, took about 20 minutes to set it up, and the camera's working right now and I'll definitely add more indoor cameras and possibly outdoor cameras. The camera automatically records to your computer when it senses motion and you can add additional schedules for recording. The only draw-back is the lack of infrared if you're using this as security at night. I'll have to add adjustments for that (motion sensor lights), but it's an awesome system otherwise. While the system can't be plugged into extension strips with surge-protectors (they're already built-in to the components), you can use regular extension cords to lengthen the range of where you place the camera (same with the computer you use to plug the whole system in - I'm using a laptop right now with an extension cord because the Logitech cord is really short). There are several different mounting systems for the camera (easy-to-attach suction can be placed on either side of the camera for looking out of the window and looking in from the window, there are wall and ceiling brackets, or a stand-alone desk holder). I had purchased another similarly-priced security camera that had to be routed to the computer in a more convoluted way, but this is a system that is much simpler in that it uses plug-in receivers and immediately connects camera to computer through electrical outlets. It also allows you to remotely view what's occurring via the web and sends alerts (something I haven't had time to try). The only small nit I have are the stickers that accompany the system - they show an icon of the outdoor camera that's not really a clear sign of surveillance or video security. I thought the stickers should mention the words "video security" or something a little clearer. Amazon.com shipped it really quickly and I'm just really pleased with every aspect of this purchase.

Wilife works well but has limitations

The previous reviews say everything I have found . I received mine and it was up and running quickly . I would expect to spend a day off to figure out a system and a little more time to tweak it and get set up online . I just want to address those who complained about the lights on the cameras .You can turn them off in the software there are check boxes in the setaup area under advanced options . Actually in a store they work great becuase people who think their on camera are more honest if you can tell a employee what they were doing they will think twice about how they act too . Now at home I wanted them hidden too as well as the camearas. You will have to be ingeneous and do some thinking as you need to keep them vented . The man that made bird houses and ran electric out in his yard thats great . What is poor about the system is you can only have 6 cameras and more is always better unless you dedicate another computer . Make sure your internet cables are buried and have at least PVC protection with some deterant protecting them from being easily cut too . IF you use cameras outside your home put cords up above sofits run back into buildings so they cant be unpluged easily by theives . It works . Its not cheap when you figure out what 4 cameras cost and that it works independant of a home alarm system however the main thing is it is easily doable and works very well over the net with no special programing . When the elderly widow on here told me she did this herself I have been ill and figured I could too . I did but it takes more then 15 minutes to set up unless your doing the indoor or spy cam out in the open inside . Don't forget to put social security numbers on your cameras just in case . The best cameras are placed with secure cords and locations . figure out a way to make them harder to detect or notice .Do try plugs before doing a full instal . I had no trouble positioning these myself . For msyelf at home I put some in . Cereal boxes with vent holes in the back and top and they work great inside or ? You just have to think . The easiest way for me to reset all the cameras is just turn off the main breaker inside the home . I am trying to figure out how to do this remotely incase I leave for long periods of time . Anyone have a clue ? The computer is on a backup supply power so it wont hurt it and it came with reset software if that becomes necessary . I have remote internet control for my machine but keep it blocked most the time . Wilife on their site explains how you can do a bios change to power on the machine after a outage as your computer must be on for the system to work . I will add come back and write some more as time passes . Hope this helps a little . They dont tell you but board camera lenses work on the indoor camears you can change them for different veiws see my review of their IR Illuminator . The camera is great but it works poorly in low light without the infared kit they sell . Just buy it if you want to monitor 24 hours period .BTW its 15 watts per camera to run and a tad more for the IR adapters . I use some LED lighting at night inside but infared cctv lighting is best . When you go to IR you loose some color but I didnt loose all like is claimed . God Bless .

Good Basic Digital Wireless Security Camera

I think my title says it all. Here is a good basic INDOOR security camera. It's not an outdoor camera (there is a outdoor camera available, but this is not the one), and it comes with the monitor and software. It's wireless, so that you do not have to run wires through the house, however you cannot plug it into an extension or surge protector. It does take time to setup. Put aside a good hour if not longer unless you are well aware of computers and setting up this type of camera. IMHO with anything new, I set aside a good hour to do a setup as things almost always do not go according to plan, then I try to rush and do more wrong and things go from bad to worse. So set aside time. There are some subscriptions you have to pay extra for if you wish. It'll all work without it (like recording and looking back), but again you do not have to. Personally I think a year should be included in the initial setup. Some ideas for this system could be a baby monitor or indoor security system to keep it focused on a room. Also, it does not have night or low light vision. But again they do sell cameras here at amazon to go with the system. When setting it up, you'll want to do a manual check for new versions and upgrade as especially when you're upgrading you want to have the most recent version. And in the future, manual checks for upgrades tend to work better than auto. But again, set aside time. Now keep in mind the camera itself is basic. It's not high quality to give details. You can purchase high quality cameras, but they cost money. Do a search for security cameras and see the prices. For all you get here, this is well worth it. Even with the extras you may wish to pay for, it's not a bad deal.

It took me virtually less time get this up and running and my wife viewing the video feed from her cell phone than it took to get the box open. She was a bit hesitant about ordering it at first, but after being able to check on the house from the mall parking lot, she's going to pick up the outdoor camera add-on. Also this software is top-notch, very easy to figure out. All over just a great product!

I needed an easy to use plug and play security camera system to monitor the outside of my home. I had it up and running minutes after I opened the box. The only thing to damper my excitement was that it did not come with the 9Volt battery needed to utlilize the wireless capability of the camrea. Check the SVAT website for a copy of the user instructions to see how easy it really is to use this system. The overall image quality is excellent when there is good light, but at night or in low light it is hard to make out details. But for a beginner level system that is super easy to set up and use, this can't be beat.

This camera works fairly well. I wish it had a little better image. You can see cars real clear, but not the licence plate. I guess you get what you pay for if you try to go cheaper. The camera seems to be really durable and is nice and small. And it is extremly easy to hook up. It does't seem to interfere with our cordless phone, I was worried that it would. The longest distance that I could get it to work was probably about 100 feet. The Night vision isn't something to get all excited about. It does pick up reflective objects really well though. It's a good camera and all, but I wish I spent a little more money to be able to read the licence plate on a car.

I was expecting delivery in 7 days and was surprised to receive it in 3 days. That was astounding. It took about a good 15 minutes to install the software. After that I was up and running in a few minutes. The clock camera replay gives excellent quality for such a small camera and the motion detector is excellent. Replay is easy as 1,2,3. Dont forget to turn your camera sound off if any of your cameras are inside. Monitoring my camera from work is so simple I couldnt believe it. I took advantage of a special discount to save selected recordings to the WiLife website. For the money is one of the best buys I have ever taken advantage of.

We bought this product to monitor our nanny, and it works great. The interface is very easy to use and easy to set up and it records with great quality. The only things that I don't like are that it doesn't record sound and when I tried using the internet feature it kept crashing my cable modem, but that may be a problem with my internet connection.

I purchased the WiLife Digital Video Security system to nab "Goldilocks." The system was extremely easy to set up and install. I've attempted to activate the mobile alerts, but have not been successful. I need to read the directions in more detail. The video saves to an external hard drive that is hidden. The color and clarity of the video is excellent. The sensitivity to movement is amazing. The camera starts recording when faint shadows or reflective light passes through the recording area or when someone is standing at the door (behind the curtain). The system has other benefits as well. The kids don't know we have it. It has come in handy resolving sibling rivalries and who started what and how... ;o) also captured some interesting dance moves by the five year old when he was supposed to be eating his lunch. It's a great system that I highly recommend for any home or small office.

I was skeptical about this camera system living up to it's easy installation claim - but it does. I am truely amazed. I am running Windows XP Media Center over a wireless 802.11g network. My antivirus and firewall is Trend Micro Internet Security. The security settings are high because I connect wirelessly. My DSL connection is through a 2Wire router using DHCP for addressing. My power to the PC and the camera is through an APC battery backup. I figured that between the firewall filtering and the battery backup conditioning the power this system would at least need some tweeking. All I needed to do was install the software, plug it all in, and follow a few on screen directions. It was that easy. The system uses the electrical lines to communicate so installation is as simple as plugging one adapter into an outlet near the PC and linking it to the PC via the included USB cable and then plugging another adapter near the camera and connecting the two with the included cable (I think it is a standard RJ45 cable). The system worked flawlessly right off the bat - even though the adapter that connects to the PC is plugged directly into my UPS. The PC interface to manage the system is straight forward and intuitive. I didn't even need to access the help menu to fine tune my preferences. The system I was shipped has the indoor camera rather than the clock camera pictured here. As mounting options, the indoor camera comes with a swivel mount that must be screwed onto a surface, a suction cup mount and a desk stand. This camera is easily to focus and position. The biggest drawback for this camera it the excessive status LEDs. In a business the one red and three green flashing lights could be a plus but at home it is annoying. Fortunately, you can turn them off in the computer interface but it took two tries and unplugging the camera once for the setting to stick. Lastly, I went to the WiLife internet site and created an account in a few short minutes (maybe 5 tops). Shortly thereafter, I was watching the camera feed via the internet. How cool is that. And this service is free with the camera. One of my dogs is going to be so busted as I am now able to watch and see which one is tearing up the bed while I'm at work.

This system is amazingly simple to set up and use. Was skeptical that viewing remotely would work that easily, but it worked right off the bat! I can look in my business anytime, anywhere and see captured video or live footage. Caught a thief in the act in a couple days. Also use it to keep an eye on what's going on while I'm at work. Lorex LW2201 is a very simple and easy to install surveillance system. The color camera is wireless (from the receiver) and solidly constructed for outdoor use/installation. It also capture sound (built-in mic) and able to see in the total darkness with the help of the infra-red LEDs. The receiver included in this LW2201 package can take up to 4 cameras to see 4 different location at the same time. Pros: 1. Wireless operation (between camera and receiver) 2. Wireless distance is reasonable/usable (advertised up to 450 feet) 3. Mic included in the camera (will capture sound) 4. Simple security with room for expansion

The Lorex LW2201 Weatherproof Ultra Wireless Surveillance System works as well as advertised. I only have a few minor gripes about the system. The set-up is incredibly simple. Just plug the power supplies into the camera and into the receiver, screw on the antennas, and plug the A/V cables into some kind of monitor/TV. My camera was already paired with the unit, so I didn't have to do anything else. Pairing the wireless unit with the camera, or another camera is simple, just push 1 button on the receiver and a big yellow button on the camera and it's good to go. They claim the pairing function securely connects your camera to your receiver so that no one else can grab hold of your camera's frequency, but I have no way to test that. I'll just take their word for it. The unit comes with a small arm stand for the camera, and a couple screws to mount it. You might need extra screw mounting pieces if you want to mount it into something like brick, though. Regardless, set-up and installation is a snap. The image is very good in daylight. However, the night vision is only "acceptable" quality. The far-red LED lights create a bit of a halo effect around the center of the camera's lens. So everything in the center of the image looks clear at 20-25ft or less, but the stuff on the periphery of the center of the image is a little darker and fuzzier. Still, you can see what's going on. Also, be sure to note that you can see the red LED lights of the camera. This is good if you want everyoen to know that you have a camera, but if you want a more stealthy hidign spot for your camera, it's definitely going to give it away. The mic works well at about 25 ft or less, but after that it definitely tails off. So to sum up the problems: I think the night vision image is a little bad at the edges of the image, the mic isn't all that great at longer distances, my unit had one dead LED bulb on it (I don't think it really affected the image quality by itself), and the far-red LEDs are not truly infrared so you can see them with the naked eye. The problems I stated are pretty minor in nature, though. The Lorex system is solid and you can expand it to include 4 total cameras, and even view them simultaneously split-screen in your monitor. Overall, I recommend this unit for a simple security solution.

I live in apartments with windows facing the parking lot. For some time now, I have thought about hooking up a webcam of some kind and pointing it out the window towards where I parked. The logistics of running a long USB cable from my computer to the appropriate window prevented me from doing it that way. A wireless WiFi webcam might be the perfect solution, but not everyone has a WiFi network (and these cameras can be a bit pricey). The Lorex LW2201 is an interesting compromise between legacy equipment (old fashioned cameras) and modern wireless technology. The camera itself is designed to be usable outdoors, meaning it is in a rugged metal enclosure complete with an adjustable hood that slides forward to cover and protect the camera lens. It is a color camera, but in low-light conditions, it clicks in to "night vision" mode and the image goes to black and white. A ring of infrared LED lights around the lens light up, allowing you to see an image even in complete darkness. There are no wires -- the camera has an antenna that attaches to the back, and a power cable that plugs in to an AC adapter. Bolt the base somewhere, run the power cable, and you are set from that side. Elsewhere, a tiny receiver -- about the size of a deck of playing cards -- can be plugged in, and an antenna is attached to allow it to receive video from the camera. Video and audio outputs come out of the receiver (cables are included) and then run to a monitor or TV, or in to a recording device. If you just wanted to keep tabs on your car overnight, you could use a cheap VCR and let it record in 6-8 hour mode. Overall, setup of one camera to the one receiver is very simple. The receiver can support multiple cameras, and can be set to flip between the cameras (full screen), or split the screen up to display four images at a time. I cannot comment on those features, as I only have the one camera. A button is pressed on the receiver to get it in to a scanning more, then you have to press a button on the camera within 30 seconds to let them sync to each other. It seems easy enough. The camera does have sound, so if it is mounted outside, you can hear a bit of what is going on, but don't expect miracles. It's not quite as sensitive as a home movie camera typically is. So, overall, you have wireless color (in light) or black and white (in darkness) video with sound, transmitted to a receiver within a few hundred feet. Now, the downsides: First, range is very limited unless you have an open area with no obstructions. I hooked the received up to a TV in my livingroom, then tried to use the camera in the bedroom connected to the same wall that the TV is against. Even though the range was only about 15 feet between camera and receiver, signal quality was too poor to lock on. This was due to the bedroom having several large metal shelving units which obstruct the signal. If the room was empty, I doubt there would be such problems. Video quality is also quite poor. The camera sends a digital picture that looks more like a YouTube video than a video camera image. You can toggle between high speed but low resolution (thus, motion is good but image is blocky), or a slower high resolution image. In bright light, the high resolution image looks very good -- a bit "digital" but totally watchable. The frame rate slows way down, though, so it comes across looking like a traditional security camera clip you'd see on a TV news program. Overall, the camera seems well built and designed, but wired cameras I have seen provided a better picture than this wireless system. However, in situations like mine, a wireless solution is a MUCH easier choice. As long as you can tap in to power, you can mount this camera anywhere within range and get a totally usable image without any wiring or network configurations. For my specific uses, though, I think my next effort will be with a WiFi camera. Since I already have a network which completely covers my home, that may produce better results than this dedicated security system. Instructions were clear, packaging was nice, and setup was simple. It does what it does, and the wireless "plug and go" is very neat. Just keep in mind the designed use -- picture quality may be worse than you expect, and range may be more limited than you expect. Overall, a very good product for it's intended audience.

What I like most about this Lorex surveillance system is that I had it up and running within minutes. It's no more complex than plugging in basic RCA cables to a VCR or DVD player. Anyone can handle it, no sweat. Given the simple cable interface, the Lorex can be hooked up to any device with RCA inputs -- a DVD recorder, VCR, surveillance DVR or even a computer's second monitor or portable DVD player if you like. Advanced users will appreciate the BNC connectors for higher end equipment. It's important to note the sturdy construction of the camera itself. It's an external camera housed in heavy duty casing, not cheap plastic. This will easily stand up to the elements, birds or even a rock flung directly at it. It's no cheap toy, this is the real deal. But the camera isn't overly bulky or obtrusive. It's a good compact size while still significant enough to deter on sight alone. It's about the size of a soda can, though not as big around. The mounting brackets are also solidly constructed to support this sturdy cam. The camera lens is encircled by 30 infrared LEDs that come on automatically for superb night vision, giving clear visibility at least 40 feet with virtually no external light source. No joke. I have this mounted on my garage pointing at my back door, and with the lights off, I see everything clearly. Very cool. It's important to note that though the video signal from the camera transmits wirelessly, the camera itself still needs a power source and has to be plugged into an outlet. You'd think this is obvious but I've had conversations in the past and some overlook this fact so I thought I'd better mention it. Signal transmission extends up to 450 feet, though that may be reduced significantly if the camera and receiver are separated by concrete or brick walls. Mine are about 150 feet apart with the camera high on the garage and the receiver in the house. The signal is strong and consistent with no dropouts or feedback. Oh, and it has SOUND too!! Some surveillance systems don't offer this. Another cool feature for the Lorex is that you can add 3 more cameras, giving 4 total views on one viewing screen. The receiver splits the screen for the other cameras so you can place multiple cameras around the house, office, store or what have you. My only quibble is that this unit can't be used over a network where you login and see what's happening remotely while away from the office or on vacation. For that, you'll need something like the Logitec WiLife system, though those are nowhere near on par with the heavy duty construction of this Lorex. The lack of network connectivity isn't a flaw with this system, per say. It's just a feature I like, so for that reason, I docked it one star. Just personal preference. UPDATE -- didn't notice this before, but the box says "Slingbox compatible" Well, that's kinda cool since it give the remote viewing capability I thought it was lacking. You have to incur the added expense, but at least it's an option if you need it. Legally required but not functionally significant -- I like the surveillance warning stickers that are meant to be stuck to a window. Those alone are intimidating. The Lorex LW2201 Surveillance System is the real deal. This is a top notch security system that's easy to setup, rugged, with excellent video quality and a flawless wireless signal. If it meets your needs and you don't need network viewing, you can't go wrong with this one.

Lorex LW2201 Weatherproof Ultra Digital Wireless Surveillance System. Very easy to set up and go. Can be more functional. The LW2201 is setup for an out of the box and go installation. I was able to watch monitored surroundings in about 15 minutes from the time that I opened the box. The camera half of the kit is very well made, not quite industrial quality, but well above the typical plastic web cam models. Of course it is a security camera, and not a web cam. As such it is enclosed in aluminum, has an additional aluminum sunshade, and the mounting swivel support is steel. The receiver portion is plastic, but it is meant to stay indoors. The basic hook up is on camera: 12 dc power supply, antenna, and a pairing button. On the receiver, antenna and one umbilical cord which has three plugs on the end; 12 dc to power connector, audio, and composite video signal. Once you plug in the power to both components, they automatically synced up and I got an excellent quality signal on my composite monitor. So the basics work extremely well. There are provisions for changing the 640x480 VGA signal to 320x240 on the receiver, this simply looks to be a digital crop to the center of the picture. You can also set up the receiver to scan up to four camera full screen sequentially, or put up four small pictures from each on the screen at the same time. The composite video output can be recorded on a VRR or DVD/HD recorder. Here are some more first hand observations. The range is advertised as up to 400ft. With multiple walls the best I could do was about 200ft. About exactly the same as my 2.4Ghz cordless phone. Not coincidentally the camera uses the same frequency (frequency hopping for security). There is a signal strength meter on the screen, but basically when it dropped from 4 bars, it then went to nothing almost immediately. The camera contains a microphone. It is not very sensitive. Talking from 10 ft away could barely be heard. The camera is night vision (up to 40ft) capable. There are 30 IR leds surrounding the lens. They glow dim red when night vision engages. It works very well in total darkness, but the red glow is easy to see. The night vision is in black and white. The viewing angle is specified as 58 degrees. 5.8mm f2.8 lens. It is not particularly wide, and you very well may need multiple cameras for adequate coverage. Focus looks good at all distances. Quality of the video is excellent. The camera switches to night vision mode with an audible click. It does so prematurely I would say, as daylight color picture stays a very good quality, and things do not have to get very dim before the camera goes into night vision mode. Normal room lights indoors were not enough for it to stay in color daylight mode. The back of the receiver contains a mini USB port. Instructions say it is not used. I called Lorex and they said there is no way I could hook up anything to this port. This seems short sighted. I hooked it up to my computer and it was immediately detected as a Mars-Cam. None of the drivers available on the Lorex website for their web enabled cameras that I tried appeared to work. Why? Nowadays that web based monitoring and computer enabled video is so common why not have the driver. It looks like all of the circuitry is already in place. For 24 hour monitoring and recording you would need a special VCR/DVD recorder. (by the way you get a Spanish and English language stickers warning of 24 hour video surveillance to dissuade potential intruders) It would be so useful to have your computer grab a snapshot every minute or so. Of course Lorex also sells cameras that do that as well. So in summary; here you get a very well constructed outdoor quality monitoring camera, with a swiveling mount and a weather shade. You can plug it thru the power supply into a outdoor spot light bulb socket with a screw to ac plug adapter and be ready to monitor in minutes. The receiver is no frills very easy to set up, range is good. The recording capability is limited by the composite A/V output only so to use it with a computer would require a video capture card. However there is a remote possibility that Lorex may issue a USB driver for the port already available in the back.

So far everything works well. I opened up the box and plugged in the camera. I then walked all the way around my house and it worked well. Yes there was a little fuz and static but nothing major. My main concerns were that my existing wireless devices would interfear. (Wireless internet, Wireless phones 6.0 Panasonic, and a wireless video transmiter 5.8) So far nothing seems to be interfearing with this camera. The picture quality is good and it seems to be well built. I read the reviws for the other SVAT camera system that says you have to plug in the monitor behind the batteries and that it uses AAA Batteries. I thought I would try this camera because it has a rechargable batery and a base that you can set the monitor in while it charges. I am very happy with my purchase. My expectations were really high but this thing does work well. So that is why I am taking the time to type this review so others can rest assured that this camera is,in my opnion a great deal.

we have 3 babies and we were looking everywhere for a good,reliable video monitor with several cameras. we knew by experience that the kid's stuff does not work great,so we switched to "real" security system, and this model did the trick just fine. It was our second try, but the first model had too much interference to work properly (ah this annoying blip, blip in the middle of the night...)Easy to use, no unnecessary gadget or design...we like particularly this model because of the automated switch to night vision in the evenings. just one comment:it is a shame that the model does not allow for a third camera for our third kid. All-in,great device and reasonably priced.

I have a bi-level home with no windows downstairs. When people come over I can not see that they are here nor can I here them when they knock, This system is so perfect! It has a motion sensor so that when people pull in my drive way or walk up to my door it beeps. It has sound although the sound picks up everything including the wind. The camera was so easy to install and so small that people can't see it. It has night vision that isn't wonderful but it works!! The monitor is wireless and has a great picture.I am very happy with the product! I can monitor the front of my home, and with they system being wireless I can take it with me upstairs and into the backyard! Great buy and for the price it is more than worth it!!!

Works great as a second alarm along with the SC-001

I bought this to have a secondary alarm in case the main alarm on the SC-001 Control Panel was disabled somehow. It's a very simple unit, and if you pair it to the main Control Panel then the siren will go off when the main Control Panel siren goes off, and deactivates when the main panel is deactivated as well. In my experience the alarm on this Audio Alarm will sound for a few seconds longer than the main Control Panel once it has been deactivated. I'm guessing this is due to the delay in the wireless signal from the main Control Panel telling the Audio Alarm to turn off. The weakest part of this unit is the plastic cover that is removeable to allow the A/C plug and antenna to be connected to the device. It's pretty weak and I can see it breaking over time, but realistically you should not have to remove the cover very often. Overall the product works as advertised and I will be purchasing another to mount outside my house so my neighbor can hear the alarm if it goes off as he frequently keeps watch over our house for us.

Look you got to give this product five stars! Yes it may not be perfect but it is about as close as a product can be. Installation and Setup is a breez and I like the way it works, and how it is preset to about what you want without any programing... I think it's packaging and design is very well done! My house got broken into twon months ago, and now I really feel safer knowing this is there!

Only one drawback...

Overall I like this product (and the entire system)... this product really only has one drawback: it doesn't participate in system "beeps"... while it DOES alarm when the system ALARMS, it doesn't beep when the system arms/disarms or when the system count-down timer is going. I would have liked it to do this because my main console is in an area that can't be heard very well throughout the house. A lot of times you can't hear the various system chimes -- which would have been substantially improved if this component did more than simply sound when the system alarm was triggered. :( Otherwise, it's nice and loud and works well for it's main purpose. Eventually I'm considering getting 2 more: 1 for my garage and 1 for my backyard... to make my alarm REALLY NOISY. Currently, with this speaker and my main unit's speaker, the system is loud enough that anytime you are near them they actually hurt and disorient you). Not bad. :)

I really do mean thrilled with the performance. The video will give you more details on the functionality - but below is a summary of my likes and dislikes. Pros - Highly sensitive microphone - Low light capability - Very easy set-up - Will interface with your television - will allow for a split screen using your picture-in-picture. - Works with a recording device - a DVR, VCR, or other devices. - Alarm for any changes in status - if it detects movement or sound - Decent range (Not great but not bad) - Monitor will support up to 4 cameras Cons- - Need to watch for audio feedback if the monitor gets to close to the camera (It could wake a baby) ... note that this is standard for any audio equipment if the receiver gets to close to the source. - A bigger screen would be nice - if I was trying to find something to complain about Final Verdict- Great product at a reasonable price - the Lorex LW2002W is a easy product to review and enjoy! 5 stars

Excellent system, good value

I looked at the other two similar systems available and this one is the best in my opinion: Setup is extremely easy - charge and turn on. Picture quality both day and night vision are excellent. Camera can be rotated at good variety of angles and can be battery powered (though night vision would drain batteries quickly). It's digital, so neighbors can't see your cameras and you can't see theirs instead of yours. What differentiated this from the other ones for me was: 1) availability of additional cameras, up to 4 that can be monitored from same receiver, and 2) this system uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology, so it can co-exist with your 802.11b/g access points. I was able to use my laptop over 802.11g just fine while using the camera receiver right next to it.

I purchased a Swann monitor in November, but returned it because of limited range. Since then I have been looking for a good digital video monitor with adjustable trigger volume and good range. I read all of the reviews for other monitors, and none fit the bill. Finally I found the Lorex monitor, and I am extremely happy with it. I was able to walk to the house next door and still have crystal clear reception. It has a continuously adjustable trigger volume setting, which works very well. I also like the cradle and rechargeable battery, as I can use it at night and it is fully charged each morning. The only complaint I have about the unit is what one other person mentioned - the volume only stays on for five seconds when it is triggered, and then it goes off. I would prefer to have the length it stays on be adjustable (or an always on setting), so I could leave it on all the time. It does wake me up when it turns on and off, even if she just makes a little peep. I think if it were continuously on it wouldn't wake me up every time she makes a sound. Overall, I am really happy with it, and the price is great!

First of all, I have no idea why this unit isn't as popular as the name brand baby monitors or why it isn't marketed heavily at chain stores but believe me it is awesome! Anyone who purchases this will be pleased. After searching everywhere for a baby monitor I stumbled on this one and was worried because I couldn't see it in the store to play with it first. It also didn't have many reviews here which worried me a little. Other baby monitors had subpar reviews and people talked a lot about the issues with noise from cordless phones, wireless networks, range issues, image quality. Well I took a chance, ordered the system, received it fast, and use it every day. The camera is nice and easy to align. You can use either battery or ac power. The image quality at night is very bright and during the day is acceptable too. Focusing has never been an issue. You can see in completely dark conditions. The night light is nice and remotely enabled/disabled from the handheld. The handheld is very easy to use and handy to carry around the house. It is so simple to use and not overly complex. The screen clarity and size is fine and the menu is basic. The button placement is convenient on the sides but when holding it we tend to press them when we didn't want to. The signal range is very good and goes from back bedroom to mailbox. In Florida, with cement block anyone knows this is a challenge with any wireless device. It works in perfect harmony with my wireless 2.4g router and 2.4g cordless phone. My only cons would be button placement on handheld, pricey for add-on cameras (for like 50 more bucks you can get another handheld), battery life is shorter than I would like. (less than 6 hours with screen saver set at 1 minute) The price is right too. Compare this to any monitor out there and you will be extremely pleased. Price vs. value this unit wins! You won't be disappointed.

Works well. Excellent software, easy installation. Of course, would be better with adjustable focus, but no web video cam in a consumer price range offers that. We are thinking of buying a second one to see in another direction.

WVC210

Highlights: reasonable value for the money - good hardware, better than WVC200, lousy software - having used it for a few months, I would buy another, but there's still lots of room for improvement. PTZ: only digital Zoom (not optical - so really, there's no Zoom, just Pan, Tilt). Details: I purchased the camera in December, 2008. Prior to using the WVC210, I've used two WVC200s. The 210 is an improvement over the 200 - better color, better image in low light, two-way audio, and I haven't had to reboot the 210 (the 200s are prone to lockups, occasionally). I use the "Kiwi Syslog Daemon" with all the cameras. And, the 210 audit trail is much improved over the 200. One key logging feature that the 210 has, is the ability to audit who logged in/out (and when) - the 200 does not do this. If you think about infrastructure security, this is a plus for the 210 and a HUGE mark against the 200. Like the 200, the 210 does not do motion detection - they both look at overall light level changes in a defined region. Labeling the function as "motion detection" is false advertising. Two outdoor examples: (1) if you setup a screen region and turn up the sensitivity, changes in sunlight (caused by clouds coming and going) will trigger a false motion-detection event (2) after turning down the gain to eliminate false sunlight triggers, objects (person, dog, car) that appears small at a distance can pass through the region without detection. Both cameras use an ActiveX control to view/listen to video/audio. The problem is, most public internet computers block the install of ActiveX controls, so if you want to check on your camera(s) while on vacation (off site), you better have your laptop along. Additionally, neither the 200 nor 210 accommodate this known shortcoming - for example, both could easily have a firmware upgrade to allow the user to see a snapshot JPG of the current image (when the ActiveX interface is not available) - neither camera has this feature. As for the monitoring software bundled with the 210 and 200 products, here Cisco has done an awful job as it takes over the ownership of these products from Linksys. The "Video Monitoring System v1.0.0.0" bundled with the 210 is not at all backward compatible with the 200. Adding insult, the interface is user-hostile, not allowing you to size it or move it - it has to be in the upper left corner of the screen and it wastes a lot of screen real-estate. The "Monitor v1.0.0.18" bundled with the 200 has a smaller footprint and it allows you to size and move the interface. It is forward compatible to the 210, but video only (not audio). It also gives you much more configuration control at your fingertips including volume control and on-the-fly record / stop / playback. In a nutshell, the interface of the old software is much better than the new stuff. If you will have a mix of WVC200 and WVC210 cameras, and if you want to use the monitoring software to record surveillance video, you will have to use the software that comes with the WVC200. Works well for technical users

Camera works well in low light and color is good. Does not play nice with Windows Vista,,( needs a patch). For the novice user the setup can be difficult. Video can stream to my Smartphone quite well. (Storm). User install and user guide info is incomplete but again if you are above average technically it's OK. Overall I would say it does what they advertise but you may need help making everything work to it's capabilities.

Linksys WVC210 in Linux

Good quality camera

Good image quality and has worked well for the past 6 months. I would give it 5 stars but the reception is weak on this camera. WIFI looses connection if you are very far from your router. I had to add an access point and a bridge to keep all my cameras connected. And I only have a 1600 sq ft house. I like the two way audio. It is ok in low light but not really as good as I would like. The motion works well but may be too well for some. You will get lots of email images. The microphone works well and picks up almost any noise in range. It's nice to be able to see what's happening at home while your away. The motor is noisy, no doubt about it. But over all I am pleased with the camera and the software is fair. Too bad the software won't accept any other cameras only the WVC210 and WVC200.
